Despite a tough year for the hospitality industry, there are still bright spots of delicious encouragement and excitement for Chicago’s foodies. Those have come in the form of new restaurant and bar openings, as well as the re-openings of some of our favorites that initially closed at the start of the pandemic’s dining restrictions. Every new door opened in the world of Chicago food is a new chance for all of us to support this community and find spots that are sure to be our favorites for years to come. Here are just some of the latest new restaurants to check out in the Windy City…

NEW OPENINGS

GG’s: Grapes & Grains {858 West Lake Street, Chicago; 773.398.9153}: This latest addition to the West Loop comes complete with whiskeys and wines from around the world. Add that to their menu of shareable plates like charcuterie and cheese boards, and you’ve got a fun new spot to keep on your radar for when restaurants re-open. They also have to-go cocktails to take home with you right now!

Spirits & Spice Chicago {835 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 8005, Chicago; 888.807.7474}: For those of us doing more at-home cooking, or wanting to spice up a meal kit from our favorite spot, Spirits & Spice has lots of unique spices, oils, vinegars, and even hand-selected whiskeys to help upgrade your kitchen.

Evette's {350 West Armitage Avenue, Chicago; 773.799.8478}: Open for less than a month, Evette’s has already hit Lincoln Park with a bang of color and flavor! Dig in to tacos, Gyro Melts, Churro Shakes and more via carryout, delivery, and seating on their small patio.

Sheffield Kitchen {964 West Belmont Avenue, Chicago; 773.697.8941}: Perfect for the new city dining restrictions and the colder weather approaching, Sheffield Kitchen is a delivery only kitchen hosting six different concepts including Chicago-favorite Cheesie’s, plus new spots like G&T Over the Tavern: Pierogi and Bomb Ass Burgers. There’s plenty of options to order for delivery tonight!

Bill's Original Tavern Pizza {317 North Clark Street, Chicago; 312-847-8412}: Nothing says “Chicago food” like pizza! This new River North spot has all your tavern-style pizza favorites, from the pies themselves to cozy dishes like Mozzarella Squares and Italian Beef.

Big Kids {2545 North Kedzie Boulevard, Chicago}: From ex-Blackbird chef Ryan Pfeiffer and Mason Hereford from sandwich spot Turkey & the Wolf, this casual eatery takes twists on fun childhood favorites up a notch. Choose their Fried Bologna or a Vegetarian Crunchrwap Supreme as well as creative cocktails for your next carryout order.

Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall {1811 West Harrison Street, Chicago}: This 10,000 square foot hall is a food-lover’s dream, and should definitely be on your list once we can dine indoors again. Until then, order carryout or delivery from spots like Crockett Cookies, Lexington Betty Smokehouse, Maharani Indian Cuisine, Passion House Coffee, and Viet Nom Nom.

NOW RE-OPENED

Mable's Table {1655 West Cortland Street, Chicago; 773.904.7433}: This Bucktown family spot has been a neighborhood favorite since they opened two years ago, and thanks to an outpouring of support from locals, they were able to re-open their doors in October. Even after a few-month hiatus brought on by the pandemic, they’re now back again with the same amazing customer service, comfort food, and patio seating.

The Kitchen {316 North Clark Street, Chicago; 312.836.1300}: Fresh ingredients, classic dishes full of warmth, and a beautiful riverfront view have made The Kitchen a must-try in Chicago for years. They’re now offering delivery, but we recommend picking up your dinner so you can take in the beauty of downtown and the Chicago River.

Lawry's The Prime Rib {100 East Ontario Street, Chicago; 312.787.5000}: This classic steakhouse is back in action just in time for chillier temps! Get dinner delivered or pick-up your favorite cut of steak to go. They’re the perfect spot to pick-up a delicious meal for date night in.
